15th, 16th and 17th June 2007- the club attends NAMHO 2007 at Morwellham Quay and
displays stall, giving out leaflets
29th June - the mines inspector has now seen the mine and given us a clean bill of
health. Some minor works are recommended and works are scheduled.
4th July - the club runs its first visits to the mine by interested parties with
seventeen going round by appointment. A good time was had by all, despite appalling
weather!
9th September - the club’s first open day . And to make it doubly great we also learn
that we have been given a grant by Peak District Mines Historical Society. Thanks
for the help and your confidence!
16th December - the club restarts the tradition of lighting candles on the lead veins,
members celebrating on site!
20th January 2008- significant maintenance work completed and scrap metals from the
site removed. A good days progress.
We have had an American visitor to the mine - Andrew Graciano, Ph.D. Assistant Professor
of Art History at the University of South Carolina. He was over here researching
the mining backgrounds to Joseph Wright of Derby's portraits of the Hurt family in
the late eighteenth century- and took an opportunity to go underground.
